TESCO Sensory Garden

On the 19th October we welcomed a team of Tesco employees from across East Lancashire to The Park Child & Family Centre to complete a project to transform one of the areas immediately outside our main entrance.

Since the opening of our fantastic allotment space in the summer of 2017, we have been exploring opportunities to expand our food growing into underutilized areas of the car park, with the vision of providing even greater access to children and families to fresh produce ready to be picked. Having sketched out a range of ideas, teaming up with Tesco saw the project step up a gear with the offer of hands on support by store colleagues to bring our ideas to life.

Little Stars pre-school children were the first visitors to the garden, delighting in the range of colourful plants and sweet smelling herbs filling the planters and giving everything a good water! Careful planning of the space has ensured that the planters are both accessible to children and manageable in the long term. The path provides a wonderful invitation to explore the garden - encouraging children to take a walk around the beds.

We are delighted with the end result and are sure it will excite children and families about fresh food. We invite you to take a walk around and see what's growing - and why not try some of the fresh herbs - a brilliant way to add some flavour to a home cooked meal!
